Figs, almonds and carobs are typical of the culture and gastronomy of the Algarve region. In bygone times, in the inland zones of the region, the cultivation of nuts and dry fruits was the main economic activity of families. The fruits and nuts were gathered manually using long sticks or rods to knock them from the trees, after which they where collected on the ground. The rooftops of Algarve houses were replaced by terraces and were used to dry fruit under the sun. As well as the tastes, Campos Santos has created a typical Algarve house for their biscuits.
